Fundraising Ideas
There are many different ways that you can fundraise- by writing grants, selling items, holding school spirit activities, asking for donations, creating websites, etc. The list goes on and on. We know that it's hard to think of what to do, and that fundraising may seem like an onerous task.
Not to worry! The Development Department has created a fundraising resource guide to help you think of fundraisers for your school. This guide includes not only ideas for fundraising, but information about how to work with the Green Dot Development Department- who to go to for help, what Green Dot can do for you, and who keeps track of your fundraising.
General Fundraising Suggestions
- When planning a fundraising event or program, understand your fundraising target and whether the event or program will meet it.
- To do that, you will need to create a budget. The two critical things you will want to know before doing anything are how much everything will cost and how much money you will bring in. In other words, understand the revenue and the costs, and therefore what the profit will be.
- Obviously, you should only do the event if the profit is worth it.
- Once you start spending money, always keep track of every cent paid and every cent received.
- For most programs, you will want to set an end time limit. You don't want things to stretch out indefinitely.
- When the event or program or drive is over, create a one-page summary of how much you spent & made, what went well, and what could have gone better.
- Keep track of all of the events that at your school this way for future reference. Here is a simple Tracking Sheet.
